Is Lady Gaga the new Isabella Blow?

For those of you who don't know her (which is possible, if you're not in the fashion crowd), Isabella "Issy" Blow (19 November 1958 – 7 May 2007)was an English magazine editor and international style icon. The muse of hat designer Philip Treacy, she is credited with discovering the models Stella Tennant and Sophie Dahl as well as the fashion designer Alexander McQueen. [Source_Wikipedia]

I'm currently reading a book about her called Isabella Blow: A life in fashion (which you can find HERE) and the more I read, the more I wonder about the similarities between her and our new pop culture reference Lady Gaga. Granted, the latter is no aristocrat, but hey, who is it these days?

I’m not only talking about their particular sense of style (which sometimes makes me wonder if Gaga hasn’t had a look around the fashion history files in search of inspiration, as you’ll probably have wondered too by the pictures chosen), but also about the way they lead their lives. Both were/are inconformists and in a continuous search of provocation and reaction from those who surround(ed) them. Both managed to attract people in the same way the light attracts a moth because of their incredible personality.

As you will see in the pictures, both women express themselves through their clothes and accessories, pushing the boundaries in ways that one could think are original sometimes, but most of the time outrageous. And in that senses, they both mange(d) to attract the attention of many designers that have succumbed to them and designed clothes for them such as Armany's satellite dress for Gaga, McQueen dresses for Blow, D&G metalic corset for Gaga or Blahnik's shoes for Blow's wedding (that matched with the first "hat" Tracy did for her) and so on.

I'm also thinking about both their passions for sexy underwear and the need to wear it as an exterior clothing: Blow discovered a corset and bra maker in her early years with whose work she fell in love with, hence wearing his creations underneath a jacket and a skirt as their only companion (I'm still in doubt weather in case of Gaga is because she likes it, or just for the sense of provocation)

Just as Isabella did with Tracy and McQueen my guess is it wont take long for Gaga to find a designer (one of the many that crowd Haus of Gaga) which will rapidly became a reference.

i've found this article seriously very interesting!
i knew isabella blow before, and i think you're very right comparing lady gaga to her.

though i'm afrad Blow was the original one, and as you've proved with the pictures, Lady Gaga is very very good at finding extravagant fashion ideas through archives, i think she copies more stuff than we suspect, though she's brave for wearing it after all!
